Powder Puff Derby 2010

Our first derby race.
My oldest daughter has always loved horses. When presented with the opportunity for her first Girl Scout Powder Puff derby, she came up with this drawing...
After a talk, we settled on doing a horse's head car. This was her next drawing...
I had never done a Pinewood derby race before so I started reading up and got out a practice block of pine to try my hand at carving:
The practice block gave me some ideas and helped settle design elements like the ears and eyes.
Then I began work on the car-
And the finished car:
I think the car ended up being .5 oz underweight but she did win 1st place for Daisys and we were up against another girl whose dad was cubmaster or something for a local Cubscout pack.
This year, she's competing in Awana and said she wants her car to be a platter of cupcakes!
