Derby Talk

So I saw this really cool idea for a pinewood derby car.
In Troy Thorne's new book Buiding the fastest Pinewood Derby Car.

However this idea I saw was not a car at all but there it was right there on page 100.

This crazy idea you had for a homemade wheel concentricity gauge.

I bet you're telling yourself ...
That you never thought someone would take your idea and turn it into a pinewood derby car.

Just what I was thinking! And teachable on several levels (gauge, peg, exact weight limit...). Is the gauge attached; if so, how?

Whoda, that would make a SUPER, GREAT addition to my presentations and save me a lot of money that would otherwise be spent on gas. I'll give you $50.00 for that unit and pay Postage for Priority mail. Will you sell it?

Yes FS, it is attached useing the bolts suggested in the materials list.
However the dial indicator I used.. well it's the one from the derby tek tool I have.


It's weight 2.8oz
While building the gauge holder useing the 5 gal paint stirrer stick I built it per the measurements
seen in the book.
However I did have to modify the stirrer stick holder to bring the weight down for the car.
While building it I came up a you might like to where it could be used to test different wheel types also.
My thoughts were if you were to elongate the hole for the gauge holder it could be slid back and forth
allowing for different drill bit sizes or pen/plug gauges to be used as well for testing the different wheels types with larger wheel bores.
It came to me will trying to compress the dial indicator to 40% and missing the target while drilling for #41 drill bit pin.
( I was a little off and this was my fix for it. )

While the $50.00 sounds inviteing for gas money for my F-250 V-10 Super Duty.
I think i'll hold on to it Speedster ..(but thank you!)

It was easy to make thanks to FS keeping its cost under $ 15 Dollars
