Butternut WIP

Completely constructed with Butternut lumber this LeMans style racer has a minimum track clearance. During a visit to a specialty lumber yard North of Atlanta a single board was selected and planed to desired thickness. The center of the car is 3/4" width with 3/8" width on either side and fenders. After sections were cut-out on a bandsaw pieces were glued and clamped. The car has a clear satin polyurethane finish. A rear spoiler is being considered.

Tom,
That's a good looking car.. l like the butternut wood grain look.

Say have you ever tryed useing salad bowl finishs on your natural wood grain looking cars.

I have some tiger maple..
That I've been wanting to use for a car with along with a little salad bowl finish.

Mark.

Whodathunkit, to date I have not used finishes for the natural wood cars other than the Minwax fast-drying polyurethane. Although other types of finishes have been considered. For the salad bowl finish what is the brand you would recommend? A hobby lumber supplier mentioned Butternut being a wood with a range of character in the grain. Other types of lumber are being considered for this car design.

I appreciate the comments for this car.

Tom,
I like useing the General Finishes brand salad bowl finish the best.. there non-toxic when cured,
plus General Finishes also has a butches block oil with a pure food-safe mineral oil also..
then theres the H.Behlen brand salad bowl finishs also.

Rockler or Woodcraft is where I get the General Finishes salad bowl finishes from.
