I am hoping to do something similar volunteering at the different pack races. I am hoping to get time to tune up the track. It needs some TLC to get some sections lined up better. Wouldn't mind getting some runs down the track for my own cars if I can get it in shape enough to not rough up my wheels.

As long as I don't get any paint near the rotational points, can I paint wheels without taking a performance hit?

added the wheels and another coat of clear for him.

I played with some wheels, for one of my next builds.

I'm betting there will be a bit of a performance hit. As we know. Lighter the better.

But if you don't mind the less speed and enjoy the looks, or the cub scout is okay with it.

Then enjoy and have fun.

I guess I could paint a test wheel and then weigh it to see what difference the painting adds. Might not be an issue at pack/district level.

I've painted the wheels on several of my cars over the years. The weight depends a LOT on the type of paint you're using. The lightest paints I've used are probably the ones intended for miniature figures, because heavy layers of paint would obscure the detail of the figures. Craft paints and standard spray paints are a lot heavier.

Next fender car on its way, balsa finder kit used. I know Evolution no longer sells them.. I believe another vendor still offers them.

I have ordered some basswood 1/8th to make another car, if I choose. I have other designs I want to get to. So this may be my last one. Not for sure yet. I have traced out 1 set for another balsa, but have not cut them.

With this possibly my last one, atleast for awhile.

I hope I have honored the original builder of this style and design. I have worked hard to try and do good work. Thank You Space Walker and Derby Evolution.

I used again, pine and used a dremel, This frame came in at 11 grams.

I overall still feel, the balsa fenders, may not stay in one piece at a typical cub scout race, feel the basswood fenders, even though heavier, will hold up better and recommend basswood fenders for scout races over the balsa.

yes, heavier and will loose some speed. But not everyone's main goal is to win it ! Could still be in the hunt tho. perhaps a 3rd place. Depending on the level of competition at their pack.

Cooler weather here, takes longer for the paint to dry and sand, ect.

I've read about all the Lee child, jack reacher books. There is the movie with cruise, which was made from one of the lesser stories from the series. I do hear another movie is in the works
