Project un-named

Post by sporty »

I have no idea if this is going to work or what to name the car yet, if it does work.

Either way, I have started my first attempt, I'm in the very early stages of this attempt.

So I will share what I have for now.

I want a different way to have my fenders on the car. And the way the wood is on it.

I am using and trying first 1/16th basswood. I may try balsa.

Hot water, soak the wood for 5 minutes. the Strip is a little wider then the width of the wheel to start out for trying this.

I also am trying two different wheels, 1 bsa wheel and 1 max-v wheel. The reason, Is due to the wrapping, and how the shape will turn out when done and which one will work best.

I then wrap the wood the best I can around the wheel and then try and tightly wrap it with masking tape and let sit for 24 hours to dry and hope that it will keep most of its shape.

Ooh, this looks unique. I'm interested to see how it shapes up.

Me too!

Please let me know if I can help Sporty!

Things have been busy lately. Sorry no time to get some fenders out to you.
It looks like you are having a good time over there non the less.

The car that I posted elsewhere on this forum is being sent to a couple of builders in St. Louis
So that it can be ready for the NPWDRL championship finals in Utah.

It will most likely get smoked but this car feels right to me.
The race is early Dec.
please wish me luck.

Wishing you luck,Joe.

I got side tracked on this one.

I glued two of them on. But they weak and come off easy, need to get time to work on a solution.

I got side tracked here lately and got a LITTLE more done, however, I get busy sometimes. and I now sometimes I post allot and updates are usually more quicker.

Just a few to many things going on.

I have not made the other two fenders.

I managed to get the two on, glued on, with super glue, no idea how they will hold up yet. and need to finess yet with some sanding.

but here is something.

So some bit of a update. taking it easy today, so be another rfew days, before I make the other set and stuff.

Tossing a idea of mixed in with some balsa for a bit more fender shape or some thin strips to make a angle follow box covered with monokote. not sure, just rolling some idea's around.

ill come up with something,

Sporty,

Nice title on this topic.. I have a name in mind for the project.

Sporty's U-Bend-it's.
Looks like some very light weight fenders are in the makeing to me. ;)
What type of automobile can be spelled the same forwards & backwards?

I found time to start curving, wrapping the other two. Takes one to two days, before I'll in wrap. Still tossing idea of adding some balsa but a bit different shape and angle. Too many fires burning. Lol.

Good luck Joe. I got smoked in 2 races and decided to "retire" back to scout races.

Sporty if the surface area and shape of the fender is similar to the wheel itself do you think it will improve performance or are you looking for a new look? So far I have made a few fender cars and all have been slower than my non-fender cars (with the exception of the car I made with purchased fenders). Still love how they look and they are fun to make.

I really need to work on my shaping skills, Man I am not good at this,

The angle I like, the shape needs work and the balsa I took a tad to much off, and the single piece of curved bass wood is to wide, or shall we say, the balsa to narrow there.

monokote wrinkle big time too.

My thought are do it better, work on it. I need some better skills for shaping and balsa work, that's for sure.

But the angle, if seen in the photos, is what I am trying to do, the shape is off tho.

I didn't have much time, being sick and now behind on stuff I need to get done. Least get a little something envisioned here.

Hi Sporty,

It isn't easy hanging way out there on the limbs eh?

Bravo for being there!

Sometimes even with a ton of hard work one steps back and says:

"Well, that didn't pan out"

No big deal. It's all part of the process. Right?
