semi trailer and trailer bed, maximuim overdrive truck.
Re: semi flat bed and trailer
They all white ? Do different colors or use lens or something from a model kit. I wonder ?
They long enough to spand out ? If you went from a center point . Say 5 inches each direction away from center ?
I didn't go see the link yet.

Those guys sell the assemblies but I'd DIY it to save money and customize to the project at hand. Get ultra-bright LEDs in the colors needed, wire them up to a battery, along with an on/off switch. Also get a spool of the fiber optic strand in the diameter needed and cut the strands to length. Bundle the strands at the end of the LED and use some heat shrink to secure them in place. Now you have multiple strands of the desired color.sporty wrote:They all white ? Do different colors or use lens or something from a model kit. I wonder ?

I was looking at the site. When you replied.
certainly would be easier to do. More costly, but worth it in time savings.

Sporty,
Some times you can find the fiber optic strand lights in the cards at wal-mart also.
check out the 2012 champion and most orignal design topic.
Good to see you building the maximum over drive semi truck.
I wanted to make this truck also.. so I'm happy you are building it first here on DT.
I have an and something you might like for cleaning up the wireing inside the trailer.

Re: semi flat bed and trailer, Maximuim Overdrive truck.
Good Idea and better then what I did.
Took a break from the trailers, to work on the cab and figure.
Painting this was not a real joy, the paint wanted to go too thin and once It dried, it would do, light and thin uneven coats and not give a good solid green color in places. trying to add more coats, seem to do the same thing. neon green paint sometimes is a pain to deal with. I did try flat white base coat as well.
clear coat.
Added some green led inside the cab.
Im just using black vinyl and heating iron to get it on better and less wrinkles.
I wanted to use it, because I wanted to reduce time in painting and trying to cover stuff, that I did not want painted.
I used a defuser screen plastic removed from a broken laptop lcd screen for the window material.
I plan on adding white led for headlights, unless it looks to time consuming for me. lol.
I will drill out and remove wood on the frame and run the battery wires under and to the hollow and inside of the sleeping box behind the cab.

Re: semi flat bed and trailer
Now were talking Sporty, I'm like'n the green glow from the cab.
I've been toying around with an idea.. that clear plastic sheets can also pass light threw it from end to end.
(Kinda like the fiber optic light strands do.)
It would be cool to see this clear plastic windshild idea that you came up with..
glow from the green to an orange look also.
You have got me wanting to play around with some clear plastic and lights now!

I use to make star wars lightsabers, using inverter and el wire. Lecon poly carbon. With polyethylene defuser.

Re: semi flat bed and trailer
Ok, I just tested it out:
Useing some plexi glass poly stryene.. & heat srink tube and an led flash light.
I cut the plexi glass to a u looking shape and cut a tab on the end for the heat srink tube
And placed it over the end of the bulb on the flash light.. the glass has to tuch the bulb..
It lights up every thing on the plexi glass and the ends.
This might be something to look at:
For getting away with useing less wire or led light bulbs sometime.
And I could see this working for the inside the trailer also.
Just trying to brain storm here and pass some ideas your way.
And.. Sporty, you are doing a good job with the Maximum Over Drive Semi Truck !

Whodathunkit,
Thanks for the kind words, I know that my builder skills are not at your level. So I appreciate that.
8 hours on this today. Im done for today.
cab bed covered and whole for switch.
Fenders.
Small holes for the wires for the lights.
Started on the lights too.
I wanna do green fenders, hmm, but it would not be as close to the real truck, not that it is now anyhow.
But I got the itch to use green for the fenders, versus black...

Re: semi trailer and trailer bed, maximuim overdrive truck.
I have done allot of photos on this one.
While I lack in great craft building and I do things the best I can. I have always hoped that my sharing helps future builders gain ideas and a basic guide how to do it and hopefully do it better then me.
More pictures.
The nose and cab are mounted, the bed part is not. I still need to tuck & solder wires and start getting into some of the detail work.
I mounted the Goblin.
Now, I have made a mistake...
The length of the semi is at 8 1/2 inches, I forgot to check and calculate for the goblin. So this one may never be able to race with the Goblin on it.
Turning on the lights.
No flash, no light in the room.
Using the flash and no light in the room. The headlight are harder to see with this picture,
With some backlights on in the room.
With some more back lights on.
I have to tell you, this really lights up well. the headlights look great and the green glow from the cab really works.
I gave you the different photo shots with lighting, but in person, even in a lighted normal room. It looks pretty good. I like it.
I need to do a front bumper, however I am not sure yet how to make one. I can't put it behind the goblin, without bringing him out even farther and As I mentioned already at 8 1/2 inches long. So I have to take a closer look and see what I can do here, if anything.

Sporty.. why not make a front bumper like the one seen on the T shirt.sporty wrote:I have done allot of photos on this one.
I just happen to have laying around a piece of that iron on decal paper. and did this.

And not go behind the goblin face.. rather go beside the goblin face with 2 pieces to make the bumper filling it in flush to the fenders.
Then some of that chrome tape could be used for covering on the bumper.

It gives the truck character and makes your craftsmanship stand out.
And Sporty,
I have yet to build a PWD semi truck with working lights ..
so your skill level.. is way pass my level for doing so.
If anything i've enjoyed seeing you wire in the lights.
