Once More into the Breach! (Construction Underway)

Post by Scrollsawer »

It seemed like all the kids wanted to do today was bug each other, but I did finally manage to get one of my boys to get started on his last Derby Car before heading off to Boy Scouts. He wants to do a design-award car for 'Most Cub Scout Spirit'.

Here are some pics. of him getting started on his build. Note that since he's not going for speed, no axle holes are drilled yet, and no need for a weight pocket. The car is going to have blue and yellow wheels, placed diagonally across from each other. The paint job will be Testors Enamel Yellow, offset with Testors Enamel Metallic Blue. We got the Yellow coat on tonight. Will tape and stripe for Blue, hopefully tomorrow evening. Think of this car like a Stock Car. There will be Cub Scout stickers all over it, like NASCAR sponsor stickers. Then will Gloss clear coat it all.

Ok Team Scrollsawer,
I seen the rip cut with the T-shank jig saw blade in the Rockwell bladerunner.

I just got to know...
Because your son shure flew threw cutting out the profile on the scroll saw.. was he useing a Flying Dutchman Blade.
And that excalibur scroll saw must have a good dust blower.
Or it's got a really good dust collector because I dident seen any sawdust on the table top.

Okay Whoda, laugh away.

Yes, the discerning eye will spot the absence of sawdust at both the Rockwell and the Excalibur machines in those pics. We document (i.e., take photos) of the power tools when the tools are turned off. This is intentional (especially around the jigsaw). I am the one taking the pics., so in good conscience, I can't be holding the camera while the machines are running. So we set up 'start-up' pics., then proceed into making the cuts with my DIRECT supervision after the pic. Is taken. I'm a bit of a worry wart at the power tools, so I have to be right on top of my boys when the machines are running. Good eye there Whoda.

Mark busted me on a staged photo of my daughter last year. She was using the Dremel with no clamp. In reality I was the clamp holding it during the actual work. Looks like we are in the same camp Scott
