General discussions for car and semi-truck racers.

Glad it is working for you. I sold mine when it melted the test wheels...
Did you apply to wheels? Or axles?

On the axles, not on the wheels! Fully cured before assembly. About 3 days from alignment to race.

Will recheck setup Tuesday in preparation for Districts. I was not satisfied with the wheels he ran. May offer 'em a better set.

I'll spend Tuesday evening showing rest of Grandson's pack how I align and let 'em use my equipment ... with close guidance. Will expect to record before/after times for those who participate. (Already built cars is an ideal environment for my biased weight method!)
That's great. I did a full on soak wheels in sailkote test. :-) It was a test and it did melt the wheels :-)

Ummm ... yes, I can see that melting 'em! :)

So far as I can tell, all the volatile, wheel melting components of Sailkote evaporated as the axle coating dried, leaving the wheels happy to be in contact.

What was his original wheel prep like? And what do you envision for the new wheels?

Inner edge radial run-out issues. Not well polished.

Not cutting a fresh set of mandrels on the lathe, then? ;)

:scratching: Haven't we gone a bit off topic?

(FWIW, other related topics here and here.)

Actual time on the car (not including drying time) is usually 2 to 3 hours. Though this years car has maybe an hour and a half into it as we went with a simple design and have the construction process down pat after 7 years of doing this.
