Go Ask Grandpa PineWood Derby
Re: Go Ask Grandpa PineWood Derby
Like most sites this is one where you have to sift through the information and find out what you'd like to try, time limitations considered, and see if you can make it work for you. I will say that I learned some things from this site that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Re: Go Ask Grandpa PineWood Derby
I built a flex car and a staggered wheel car with disappointing results. Neither were as fast as our usual designs. And the flex design I found very hard to align. I didn't use the soft weight. I glued mine to the top back part of the flex. Grand Pa must race on a very rough track. I still enjoyed his site.

I built a "flex chassis" car for last years District Pinewood Derby.
It was entered in the Outlaw Class. The rules were: same dimensions as the Normal Class, weight req. less than 7 oz. Trimmed wheels allowed.
We ran on a 42 ft Aluminum track.
All of the other cars came in at 7 oz. I could only add enough weight to get my car barely to 6ox.
Results: 1st place.
