Derby Worx 07 / 08 Tools, Wheels and Axles

Post by RACER X »

Wow, it is hard to believe Derby Worx is now in our 5th. Season of helping families build faster more competitive Pinewood Derby cars and be able to compete with those who have unlimited resources and access to fancy equipment. So don’t worry, we are here to help.

While others have been engineering cars to win specific a race or gone to extremes to try to copy Derby Worx items, rest assured we have been busy raising the bar and, making our products better so you and your child can build better cars.

Current product improvements for the new season are:

1. The Pro Hub Tool has a better satin finish for better protection and a improved over all machined finish for improved accuracy.

2. The Pro Body Tool has a crisper finish due to a new machining process and 2 new optional versions of the Pro Body Tool will be available by late Dec. (cants and jigs)

3. The Pro Axle Press has been improved to handle the overwhelming increase of B.S.A. axles that are not round, straight or have a off-center head. With this tool, a mini file and a drill, you and your child can really build hi-performance axles. (a Racer X favorite)

4. The Pro Wheel Shaver XT just received its U.S. patent this year and with some machining improvements we have made and the new “Micro-Finish Blade” this tool is AWESOME. The Pro Wheel Shaver XT is truly as accurate in round and radial dimensions as what we do here in our shop and better that a large percent of on-line finished wheels that can be bought. Plus you can build hundred’s of sets yourself and save a ton of dough!!!

5. As many know, Derby Worx builds a COMPLETE wheel line so we know what good really is. Some web sites talk about their accuracy in thousands of an inch and some in thousandths of a millimeter but none of them test or display their “RADIAL RUNOUT” this is more important than just round with a caliper, we test this with a special fixture in our shop where the wheel is mounted on a pin on the base stand, a dial indicator is applied and the wheel is rotated and it is measured in thousandth’s of an inch from the hub bore. If a wheel lacks radial run out accuracy, everything you have worked to gain is lost when the car is at speed. We will tell you that a high percent of wheel sold today fail this test, correctly mounting a molded wheel on a CNC lathe is not easy and this is why Derby Worx has been chosen to be the wheel manufacture for Max-V Derby Champ, Derby Dominator, Derby Doc’s Speed Shop, A-G Pine Cars and several others. RESTING ON OUR PRODUCTS AND REPUTATION IS NOT AN OPTION!!!!!!!! We have made improvements to our Derby Worx / Warp Speed Wheel line to be better than ever!!!!!!!!!!!

6. All Derby Worx / Warp Speed wheels: Ultra Lites, Inertia Lites and Precision Stocks are not cut straight across the face any longer leaving a blocky, detectable look like other so called light wheels. We have developed a new special program where we accurately CNC the tread face with the EXACT rounded edges and crown in the wheel as it is molded. We call it “TRUE TRACK” because by accurately reproducing the crown as the wheel is made, we have eliminated the amount of tread face contacting the track therefore increasing speed and ease of alignment. While improving our programs we also have reproduced the inside round radiused edge of the Inertia Lite and the Precision stock so is will reduce the contact area with the guide strip yet look stock. The Ultra Lite, the industry’s most accepted 1 gram wheel was not left out either. We can actually brag that with thousands of sets sold we logged a 1.75% failure or breakage rate (something no one else can claim in a 1g or less wheel) we have increased our inside hub to face radius which our tests show a 23% increase in durability and removed a little more material from the outside diameter where it is more important for even faster starts . Derby Worx/ Warp Speed is also building the 2.2 gram wheel for Max-V (all lettering inside retained plus a full thickness edge to detract from a modified look) and the new Pro Ultra Lite “H”. The world’s only 1 gram “H” tread wheel for Derby Champ. All of these wheels still feature our exclusive 4 step hub bore sizing and machining process (time consuming but worth it) and all of this was made possible by great customers and investing in additional in-house Haas CNC lathes.

7. Derby Worx is also building a economical line of mold matched precision CNC machined wheels, CNC machined straight cut axles, 2 groove axles, and 4 groove axles that are available at most retailers. We have also made some significant tooling improvements in our Derby Worx RS and SS wheel lines for better quality and finish. So if you are looking to build a challenge car, league racer or a car for a adult or open race, Derby Worx RS & SS wheels are your ticket to the winners circle.

So if it is start to finish with what you received in the B.S.A. box with the Pro Tools or the most winning wheels on the market today, not only dose Derby Worx want to give you a choice of what you want, we want to give you the best and we keep improving so you can too.

Please let us know if we can help. Racerx@Derbyworx.com

Good Luck this season
