Derby Monkey Garage has announced the opening of its new walk-in derby store, workshop and testing facility in Tyler, Texas. As the first Derby Worx Pro Shop, this store offers all Derby Worx products as well as free assistance to all regional car builders.

The Derby Monkey Garage is a Pinewood Derby car superstore containing everything you need to build a district caliber car. The Derby Monkey stocks a wide array of stock and hi-performance car kits, parts, tools and supplies for the Pinewood Derby car builder.

The Derby Monkey Garage also provides advice and free use of its Derby Workshop and Test Track to all builders who need a little help or who want to simply test their cars. The shop has all of the tools and supplies needed to make a super fast and really cool looking race car.
From band saws to scroll saws* from sandpaper to graphite* the workshop is fully equipped for Pinewood Derby car building

The Derby Monkey test track is a two lane 32 ft aluminum speedway with an electronic timer and starting gate. Designed and manufactured by SRM Enterprises, this Best Track* and Champ Timer* is the top of the line.

Do you live in Texas and need help building your car? The Derby Monkey Garage can help. If your power tool skills are not up to speed that*s OK. Steve Robbins, aka Derby Monkey, will teach, guide and assist you along the way. If you need assistance in tuning and testing your car just ask. They can offer advice and speed tips that are sure to increase your track speeds.

The Derby Monkey also offers free workshops and speed classes to all scout groups in the East Texas Area Council.

I would like to invite all scout packs/dens in the East Texas area to take advantage of our free Derby Monkey Garage Pinewood Derby Workshops.

Any pack interested should book a spot soon because the available Saturdays will not last very long. I am booking two workshops per Saturday. One starting at 9 or 10 am and the other starting at 1 or 2 pm. We can even book a mid day Sunday if need be.

The Derby Monkey Workshop has the following:

32' - 2 lane - aluminum Test Track with Timer
3 - Band Saws
2 - Scroll Saws
2 - Drill Presses
1 - Bench Sander
3 - Hand Drills
2 - Dremel Tools

I have plenty hand tools including rasps, files, saws, hammers, screwdrivers, etc.

I have several templates and plans for cars.

I have plenty of free supplies in the workshop including graphite, glue, sandpaper, screws, axle polish, etc.

If anyone else wants to bring tools, that's fine.

I will have a popcorn machine available for free popcorn... the kids love it!!!

That is quite a shop that you have setup! You are very generous to open it up, along with providing help, for the kids with their races. I'm sure that will be a great resource for the Cub Scout packs and churches (can't forget Awana, Royal Rangers, etc.) in your area.

I hope that you will exercising a lot of caution with people using that band saw. While some kids can use one with some close adult supervision, even that would make me very nervous. Even some adults using it would make me nervous. Too easy to lose part of a finger with one.

Randy... I know what you mean. Close supervision is the key... and that's no guarantee someone won't get hurt. I have the finest tooth saw blades on the band saws so they won't as much damage. No kid will be allowed to use any power tools... only dad (or mom). If he want's to let them help that's ok.
