At our Pack race today, at opening, I told the story of Don Murphy and how he invented Pinewood Derby back in 1953 (one Wolf said he thinks his Dad was there!). http://www.pinewoodpro.com/pinewood-derby-history.htm
Basically, told the story at the above link--shortened a bit. I ended it telling how Mr. Murphy had died last July and how we should have a Moment of Silence to honor the founder of the Pinewood Derby.
We had a short pause and then played The Star Spangled Banner (from GPRM). It went over very well and would recommend it to anyone who is coordinating their Derby this year.
