The server is sending it as "Content-Type: text/plain" rather than as "Content-Type: vnd.ms-powerpoint".

Hmmm ... the directory list on-site shows "Microsoft PowerPoint" as the type. Don't know what else I can do. Since it is a .pps file, not a .ppt file, it might confuse things a bit.

Maybe I needed to force it as a binary transfer ... I'll give it another poke and see if that improves things. :) But it will take a few minutes, since my outgoing speed isn't too great!

Okay ... replaced ... no changes that I can see ... still displays in an IE window very nicely. If I use the link and save it to a file, it should still work as well as before and give me a nice full-screen display.

Sorry... I should have been more specific.

This is a server configuration problem. Since the server appears to be running Apache, you should be able to add the line

AddType vnd.ms-powerpoint pps

to the .htaccess file.

Here's info from host, John Behlen, who will hopefully be here soon "in person":

I see some people have had some issues downloading the presentation. I have not had any issues but I did add the line below to .htaccess as Darin suggested.

Thanks Darin! I can't post to the forum yet because my account has not been activated.

AddType application/vnd.ms-powerpoint .pps .ppt

I hope it works for all now.

Thanks!!

This is indeed great!!! Thanks Stan!

This should help explain things for the parents new to the pack who have never seen a pinewood derby as well as the vets who want to do better.

Stan,

I used your presentation material tonight at our Pack's PWD Car Building Clinic and the response was overwhelmingly positive. I have 19 brand new Tigers in the Pack along with 10 other boys who all are new to PWD. I didn't use all of your slides, but used several of them selectively. The parents commented that the material was great and that most of them had no idea where to start. The level of detail and the pictures in your presentations was perfect.

I also showed a video of last year's races, which was well received. Most parents like visuals and so do the boys.

I had some volunteers present who helped boys design their cars and do the initial cut out of the block.

I have 82 boys in my Pack and they are all eager to race their cars now, which will be March 5th.

Two years ago, I used your Partial Perfect-N Chart Generator at your website - no complaints about fair races. We use a track with a timer now - boys race once in each lane and average their 6 times.

Thanks again. All of your material is great!

THanks for the feedback, Ken.

I'm thinking that I'll break it down into several presentations ... and I have the photos ready for a new section on the "rail" design, which many seem to misinterpret.

Here's another presentation ... this shows some details on making a "rail car" as shown in my book:

http://pinewood.proshops.com/RailCar.pps

Some pix to be added, but don't have them yet:
Drilling axle holes with proBody tool
Planning CM location

But thise pix should get you rolling.

Are these still available somewhere? The links appear to not be working.

You may have to try them a couple of times sequentially.

Not sure why (I am no web guru, unless by guru you mean neophyte), but they would not open for me on the first attempt either. On the second attempt, the Rail Car opened. On the third attempt, the Design document opened.

Shoot me a PM if that does not work for you.

The links from their "permanent" home at http://members.aol.com/standcmr/pwportal.html both worked first time for me.
