Minor Consent Waivers at your Workshops
Minor Consent Waivers at your Workshops
I'm curious as to how many of you that have workshops have the parents sign liability waivers before letting the kids work on their cars in the workshop? We've been doing this regulary since we started doing workshops four years ago. The charter organization has insurance of course, so I feel we primarily do it as a measure to make sure that individuals are covered and that the parents have a general understanding of the seriousness of the workshops. I have our waiver online if anyone is in need of one, but thought I'd check to see how many are actually using one, before posting the URL.

Our church's youth programs have a standard medical release for anyone participating in ministry programs. We don't have a separate waiver for the derby workshops though.

A PDF of our church's current medical release is available here:

Look for the "Registration & Medical Release" link.

Thank you - I need to use something like this, this year.

Here is the BSoA form:

found from here:

I'm not sure you can addend a hold harmless agreement for BSoA insurance. With legalese today, you might be undermining the insurance policy given via the charter with a different form.

At my workshops - All cubs accompanied by an adult, all objects can be deadly, DO NOT touch anything without permission and supervision. Waiver forms are a good idea!
My wife started a new support group... Widows of the Pinewood Derby.
Re: Minor Consent Waivers at your Workshops
I was dealing with a Lawyer for something else at the end of last year regarding waiver of liabilities and he stated that an adult cannot waive a youth/childs rights/liabilities. As much as I hate to say this, my advice would be to consult with a lawyer.
It is ridiculous what this world has come to regarding lawsuits.......
Take it or leave it. I still ended up having a spot for the youth, but in the back of my mind I know its not worth the paper it's printed on and that is a shame.

I live in Ontario, North of the Border... It's the same here knotthead, you can't waive liabilities, I don't even bother having them sign anything. Better to import some extra volunteers and spend the money on better safety equipment and tools that are less likely to harm someone. I use the round toothless blades on the scroll saw and don't let the kids near the band saw. This year the whole cub pack built the cars from start to finish at our meetings.

Cub scouts must follow the Rules for power tools as laid out in The Guide for Safe Scouting. Look it up if you're not familiar with them.
