Looking for some weight

Post by Chipper »

Our Troop is having our annual derby fundraiser this summer. Looks like son has to build about 5 cars. Just wondered if anyone has any lead wire for sale. Or, do you know where you can buy it in a roll, just curious? Might consider tungsten weight too if price is right.

Thanks,

Hodges Hobby House sells a 3/8" lead rod weighing about 4 oz. for $1.75. The same amount of tungsten will probably cost around $19.00. A 25/64 drill bit works nice with the lead rod.

Out of curiosity, what does your troop do for your derby fundraiser?

For our Troop derby fundraiser the boys ask local businesses if they would like to sponsor them in building a car for the business. The scouts will then race the car and then return the car within a few weeks after the race. Trophies are awarded. We have several different classes for the race. Our local businesses are very good at supporting the scouts. The money each scout raises goes into their individual scout account and is usually used for their summer camp expense.
