Down and Derby Movie

Post by HookedOnPine »

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anybody has any information on the movie "Down and Derby". I saw the previews on a website several weeks ago and I can't find out anything further. It was about a bunch of Dads trying to build the Ultimate Pinewood Derby car. It seemed like it would be a riot and I'd love to take my son to see it. I hear it has been completed for over a year. Any clues? Thanks!

According to a Wall Street Journal article and several other ebsites sites, the release date is April 15 and it is rated PG.

Here's another thread about the movie http://derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=656

The Down and Derby website now shows the release date, the PG rating and some new material, including some footage of an interview with the PWD founder himself, Don Murphy.

I couldn't yet find any theater info for my area.

Y'all in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama -- as well as outlying areas of Georgia -- are all invited to the Atlanta area to watch the movie with me and my son! (Since it will not be showing in your area for a while...)

Why wouldn't the movie release in other states the same time as Hotlanta?

The website lists the markets where the movie will open on April 15th -- the only markets in the South are the Atlanta area in GA, and Orlando area in FL. The others may have to wait a week or two or... video?

I don't think they have the budget to do a big roll out and advertise. You may see it released in limited theaters at first. I read somewhere that they are depending on word-of-mouth advertising. We need to spread the word so this will get good attendance in the theaters that it first comes out in and then other theaters will add it.

Darn. Not even in virginia. I was hoping to catch this when it opened. Hopefully enough interest will indeed be generated to get this movie out widespread.

I'm excited. It is opening at a theater very close to me.

I'm bummed  Nothing close to Memphis, TN. Thanks for the link though, maybe it will end up this way before too long. Of course these days it won't take long to come out on DVD.
