Down & Derby Movie

Post by Stephen's Dad »

Well today is the day Race fans!

Plan A

Despite having 51 families planning to view the DVD tonight, (Randy Metz did his best) the Post Office decided otherwise.

Plan "B"

Off to Walmart......"The Cub Scouts want to buy WHAT & DIRTY?!?!"
"No no no! It's the Pinewood Derby movie." Even the manager couldn't find it.

Plan "C"

Off to the Council Office.....Wow that was a close call.

Now to go set up the Popcorn machine & DVD projector!

Ours should be in the mailbox tonight. Maybe we'll get to watch it tomorrow night.

Mission accomplished!

We had no equipment failures & though not in uniform, the boys were quite well behaved. The movie was well received even by siblings & sisters.

Ace Montana....haha....I'm glad we don't have one.

Bride and I cackled through the whole thing.

Pretty campy, but good entertainment. And, perhaps, a bit too close to reality?

Stephen,

The Scout version of the movie has some great short features like the History of the Derby and Derby ABC's. These were great motivators to show at last months Blue and Gold just prior to next month's derby for our Pack. I hope other packs see the Scout Special edition and use some of these shorts to advertise their derbies each year.

JT,

I agree entirely. We showed the entire movie including the "BSA specials" to our Pack at a "slumber bag Down & Derby Pack Meeting" complete with fresh popped popcorn, etc. It really set the stage for an exciting derby season.

I will also show those high lights at the start of the 3 build workshops we have coming up in the next several weeks.

Excitement is a very strong motivator so long as we channel it effectively. :D

Stephen's Dad.

I just ordered a copy of An American Race, and I just recieved a copy of Don Murphy's book. Both are referenced in the short films in Down and Derby. I am going to share this information with our pack in slow bits. Our last workshop is Saturday. I am showing the movie at the last workshop.

PS, I set up a fundraiser with Down and Derby thru Pinewood Extreme for our Pack 740. I emailed out pack and provided the link so they can order the Scouting Edition. The movie is generating a lot of enthusiasm.
