A Pinewood Derby movie??? Yup!

Post by Stan Pope »

Randy Worchester passed this link on Scouts-L today ...

The plot line sounds vaguely familiar. :)

That is all too funny, a Pinewood Derby movie. It should be humorous (maybe a little too close to reality than we'd prefer) but it sounds like the ending has a good twist. I like the line from one of the kids, "I can't till I grow up and can build my own car and race it."

Of course, my wife just rolled her eyes

It does sound like fun -- it refers to "the guy that wrote the Pinewood Derby bible" -- does that mean Stan has a cameo?

No ... there is/was such a publication, but I am neither involved with it nor comfortable with many of its attitudes.

Sorry Stan -- no offense intended --
of course, I was referring to what we all consider the unofficial PWD bible: "Learn to Build a Winner"..... :D

This may be that to which Stan is referring. http://www.fastpine.com/

The "bible" in the trailer looks more like a real Bible, and appears to be a little more than the 40 pages advertised in the link above.

Note that Don Murphy is in the movie as himself.

The word is getting out about this site! Derby Talk is one of the listed sites on the related links page at http://www.downandderby.com/derbyzone03.html :D

Of course, I think their list it pretty incomplete. There are so many other commercial and non-commercial websites that are great resources to racers and race coordinators. I wonder where they got their list.

Anyone know what ever came of this movie? The website is very vague about release date - led me to believe it might go straight to video?

I sent an e-mail to the contact info at the website and asked the same question. They did respond and told me to sign up at their website for more info.

I originally signed up for additonal info back when this was first posted.

That is the last I heard from them. I guess we wait...

I think they should release in December as many races are in January with the build up to the race starting in December. Well, I'm looking forward to seeing it regardless of when it comes out.
