Old Plaster Shield Awards
Ok, I'm rethinking how I want to display my collection, and I don't want to put my old plaster Pinewood Derby award/shield at risk of getting broken. So I've looked online for the mold to make them, but haven't had any luck. I'm thinking if I can find the mold(s), that I can cast new ones in maybe resin (probably to costly), or something sturdier than plaster. So I'm just curious if anyone knows where I might find the mold(s).

Old Plaster Shield Awards
These will be very hard to find in good shape.
Every now and then you can find the castings on eBay but the plastic molds for making them
are few and far In between listings.
If you know of any scout shops or flee markets that have been in business for a long time
Sometimes you can get lucky and they might just happen to have one.
But your best bet to find one of the plastic molds I would have to say would be on a eBay listing.
If you know of some one who does mold castings you might be able to use one of the shields you have
and have a mold made for casting a remake version for viewing in your collection.
Just and idea to look at!

ProjectPinewood & I are talking about the some of the first pinewood derby awards seen in Cub Scout supply catalogs.
The plastic mold's for making the award shields as seen in the middle and in the lower right in this
sept 1st 1960's Cub Scout supply catalog add.
Here are some photo's of the plaster award shields.

Re: Old Plaster Shield Awards
I would say that some packs may have used them as awards back then and that the scouts helped out in casting them.
Speedster, there were also 2 cars seen along with the shield award mold.. here's what the car casting looks like.

I can see why no one would want their original one damaged. I think that would make an exciting project for today. Did the original mold make only one and then was destroyed or did it make many?

If you didn't damage the mold getting the casting out I'd say it could be reused to cast more then a few.

Okay here you go PinewoodProject & speedster.
I have more info on the plaster shield award and the 2 car's seen with the mold.
The pinewood derby award molds first came out in the summer of 59 for 39 cents no.1697
And the cars were to be worn by entrants, judges, and other Derby officials.

I would also like to thank Speedster , Where he shared with me a different type of casting mold.
This mold type was seen in a 1990 Boy Scouts of America catalog he mailed out to me.
Thanks for the items Bill.
