Hockey Puck
Hockey Puck
A few years back.
I forget now who the person was.
I had bought some used hockey pucks from them.

Re: Hockey Puck
Was it Don Rickles??
Re: Hockey Puck
I don't recall a name.
I might have to go through alot of old posts to try and see who it was.

Re: Hockey Puck
That was a joke. Don Rickles is a comedian who used to insultingly call everyone a "Hockey Puck". He was quite funny.Pinewood Daddy wrote:Was it Don Rickles??

Re: Hockey Puck
Yes I had asumed that was the comedian.
However, I passed over the joke.

Re: Hockey Puck
We mail ordered a dozen pucks in a bag with pull string (gym equipment bag, small)...
price came out to about $2/apiece (not cheap)...
our local sporting goods store used to have them for 99cents, with their logo on them... as a promo item...
now they don't carry any pucks at all... thus why we mail ordered.
Huntsville just doesn't get a lot of winter and even though we have a hockey team, etc. hockey is not a hugely popular sport (guess it is hard to play ice hockey when the weather rarely gets below freezing outdoors)...
sure we have a rink or two...

Re: Hockey Puck
It would be nice to see one of the hockey leagues, who might have tons of old pucks laying around.
Come here and post and offer them either for free or cheap price for the Kids and famlies who build and use cubmobiles.
This would even be a nice idea to see Scoutstuff.org offer also.

OK. I'm out of the loop on this one. We've never built a Cub Mobile. What are the hockey pucks used for???
Re: Hockey Puck
brake pad. workes nice and last alot longer than a rubber tire tread.
It does not damage the pavement either.

Re: Hockey Puck
Excellent!! We have a couple around the house somewhere.
Re: Hockey Puck
I was promised free used and abused pucks from the Huntsville Havoc last year… I was excited until the very end… of the phone call… when I asked if I could pick them up, the reply was “I have to final check, let me call you”…
do I have to say the result of that?
a simple “no” would have been so much more appreciated…
BUT…
the thought lingers if you get the right person on the phone, they can offer used pucks…
the guy I had was excited to sell me pucks at $5 apiece (the souvenir pucks)…
he got “iffy” when I told him I wanted not pretty new pucks but pucks to turn into brake pads… for free… it was for Scouts…
apparently he lost interest at the part where I shifted from potentially a paying customer to a freeloader.
He just wasn’t enough of a man to say “no”.

Re: Hockey Puck
I got similar lines when I was trying to get donations for our PWD last year. Many phone calls with most of them saying, "I'll get back to you", or "Call back tomorrow", or "He's not available".Teeeman wrote:I was promised free used and abused pucks from the Huntsville Havoc last year… I was excited until the very end… of the phone call… when I asked if I could pick them up, the reply was “I have to final check, let me call you”…

I'm sending my wife and and kids out to get donations this year. My wife could get blood from a stone!! And who could resist the charm of a couple of Cub Scouts in uniform??
Re: Hockey Puck
off topic here,
However, Yes, seems hard to get donations. I spent a few days and many hours going door to door. I first mailed off over 100 letter for help for the Cubmobile race. Got none with this approach.
Door to door works better.
