The humor column reminds me of my wife's experience coming to California for college. After growing up mostly in the Portland Oregon area, she was looking forward to experiencing sunny California. It turned out that her freshman year was one of the wettest winters on record. Several times that year, I saw students floating down the flooded campus streets in rubber rafts. We got that much rain.

On the phone, her mother asked how she liked California, and she lamented, "It's just like Oregon!"
