Open Class Rules

Post by Doug-in-the-woods »

RULES for upcoming June 30th race
A. G. MODIFIED
Anything goes (almost)
RULES

1) Can not damage the track.
2) Can not hurt anyone.
3. WIDTH: Car must fit within its lane. Track lanes are 3 ½” rail to rail. Recommend 3” maximum width. The body width where the axles attach to the wheels shall not be less than 1 ¾”. Track Inside rails measure 1 5/8”
4. HEIGHT: Overall car height may not exceed six inches (6.00"). This prevents tall cars from crashing into the finish line and electronic lane judge.
5. LENGTH. Not to exceed 7”. No part of car to extend past starting pin
6. Lubricants. Dry lubricants such as graphite are allowed. Oils or other wet lubricants are not permitted. Wet lubricants will foul the track.
7. PROPOLUSION. NO fire, flames or liquid to exit from car (to prevent damage to track, participants and/or bystanders). NO combustible materials allowed (fuel, gasoline, matches, gas powered engines, etc.)
8. WEIGHT. Not to exceed 7 oz
9. DECORATIVE DETAILS may be added provided they do not exceed the maximum weight and dimensions for the car. (Decals, trim, characters and decorations are allowed if they meet the finished car size and weight rules.)
10. NO LOOSE MATERIALS: The car may be hollowed out and built up to maximum weight by the addition of wood or metal. Any additional materials must be securely built into the body or chassis. Mercury shall not be used for weight addition or other construction purposes, as it is a health hazard.
11. Cars must be built using all or part of the derby kit available for this race.

Please don't submit cars for inspection with wet paint.
Please don't submit cars with excessive graphite on the wheels or body.

Each car will be inspected by the official inspection team before it competes. A work area and limited tools will be provided to make adjustments to cars that don't comply. The inspection team may disqualify any car that cannot meet the racing specifications. NO REFUNDS of entry fee.

Any racer (or parent of a racer) may appeal to the race committee for an interpretation of these regulations. The race committee, by majority vote, will be the final judge of these regulations.

Ground Rules

1. Only racers and staff will be allowed in the racing area. Parents will be invited to join winning racers for awards.

2. Heats may be rerun at the discretion of race officials (I.E.: fouled track, broken car etc.). Wheel or axle repair during the race may be done if the fix can be made in less than three minutes. Any trim or weight that falls off during the race may not be replaced. If a car jumps the lane guide or fouls the track the race will be rerun. If the same car interferes again, it will lose that heat.

3. Unsportsmanlike conduct by any participant will be grounds for expulsion from the race area.

There will be a first, second and third place award
Any racer that re-lubricates his car, adds weight to his car or otherwise alters his car during the race will be immediately disqualified.

You might want to rethink the 3' max width of the cars. My layout shows 2 lanes 3.5" apart, when 2 cars are at the extremes there should be only .265 between them. http://home.att.net/~d.fengler/Max_Wheel_Offset.pdf

No oil allowed and you can't submit a car with excessive graphite?? Why not just specify any lubrication but no over application that could foul the track. Still a little vague, but there's no reason to not allow oil if it's properly applied.

I meant you can't make the cars wider or they could interfere with each other at the extremes of travel side to side.

Or make the cars to use 2 lanes!!

I was poking fun at the 3 foot max width when you meant 3 inches.
