Cubmobile Construction

Post by *5 J's* »

I think I want to build 4-5 Cubmobiles for our cubs to race. We could have inter as well as intra den racing. I'm hoping it will go over well and others will take interest and build some more cars.

I not really interested in build the fastest or most high tech, rather a solid, inexpensive, but safe cubmobile. I like this plan. Seems to be a good, safe, inexpensive build.

I am looking at using ComTech2000 wheels on the 1/2" hardened solid axles Teeeman mentions here.

Again - I'm not looking to make the fastest cubmobiles - just solid and safe.

Anybody have any recommendations?

Also if anybody has plans for a start ramp I would appreciate a copy.

Speedy Metals has 1/2" rounds of 1045 steel for what appears a better price.

Jeff, thanks for the link, but the cost of shipping is extremely high at this site. For two 36" pieces the product is $6.48 and shipping is $18.27 for a total of $24.75. At McMaster the product is $9.53 and shipping is $8.00 for a total of $17.53.

do you have a local fastenal store ? they can get it and no shipping charge.

I am not sure comtech is still doing deals for scouts anymore, but you can check.

plans look good, except for safety seat sides, which I always recommend.

Thanks for the suggestion Sporty - I will check with Fastenal. Yes ComTech still has a deal for scouts. Good price - but best to order with a group to split the shipping costs. I plan on splitting with at least four other families.

I will incorporate sides on the seat as well. That sounds like a great idea.
