Standard deviation help

Someone explain to me how we go about figuring out what are standard deviation should be. We race on 42 foot 4 lane best track. What should be our mean?

Average times on a Best Track can vary depending on how you setup the track, especially leveling and the angle of the start section, as well as the level of competition that runs on the track.

Standard Deviation is a measure of variation. A small standard deviation means less variation between runs, which is what you want. Lots of things go into run variation, like car staging, lane differences, lube break-in/degradation, start gate vibration, etc.
