A different kind of win.
Well tonight was the big night for my daughter, the Awana Grand Prix. She had a tough reputation to uphold winning first in speed and design last year. This year she wanted a hair brush car and it was a decent looking car, good enough for second in design. Speed wise, we tried a few different things ...

Cory's Spredsheet for PPN Charts - A Question
I've used Cory's spreadsheet for the past two years with great success. However, this year is a little different. It's an Awana event and we are splitting up the two age categories into two nights. Long story short, I'm guessing we are going to end up with 20-25 cars for an evening running on a ...

Re: Pack Derby (Warning: lots of pictures)
Is the track a traditional style where the cars straddle the lane guides or are the lane guides outside of the wheelbase of the car? It's a little hard to tell from the pics....just curious.

Awaiting the dawn
That's it....it's done. You and the person shorter than you have done all you can for this year's car. Tomorrow is the big night and the car (cars in my case) are resting comfortably for the evening. You?.....not so much. What could you have done better? What will you do next year? What if something ...

Curious from those that have seen it, how were the track sections attached?

Re: The trophy round
OK, update time! The big night was last night and it went a lot better than last year's event. I downloaded the spreadsheet on Cory's website and it worked very well. We had 2 age groups running separately, Sparks and T&T's. Sparks had 14 cars total with 5 making it to the trophy round. T&T's had 9 ...

Re: Pinewood Derby App
Anytime I stumble across a tips book(let), I am curious if it includes advice that might offer no benefit - or worse, does more harm that good. Yeah, there's definitely some things in there that made me raise an eyebrow. The page right after that screen shot goes into detail about polishing the ...

Re: Pinewood Derby App
... or an iPad :D . Anyway, it's not so much an app as it is an e-book. It's pretty basic and generic. It goes into a little bit of everything from body design, cutting out the design, sanding, finishing, etc. It also goes into wheel and axle prep a little bit. However, it's always from the ...

Pinewood Derby App
Just stumbled across an app in iTunes called Pinewood Derby Handbook. I haven;\'t had a chance to really look at it yet, but hey, it's only a buck. FYI.

Re: The trophy round
Thanks again guys. Stan, I had not thought of assigning numbers in that manner, definitely worth considering. Once I speak with the commander (troop leader in Awana lingo), I'll let you know how the event goes, assuming I don't have anymore questions, which I probably will.

Re: The trophy round
Thanks for the replies thus far, here's some more info. This is an Awana race with a 2 lane borrowed home made track, no timer. The commander is probably going to want to split the group into 2 age groups (Sparks and TNT's) with somewhere around 20 cars in each group, give or take 5. He also ...

The trophy round
I've seen numerous threads about running a points style race with PPN charts. The consensus is that this is a good way to narrow the field to about 7 cars for a trophy round. My question is, how do you all handle the trophy round? Do you re-number the cars and generate another chart or is it more of ...
