Win A Track For Your Pack!

Post by Derby Gurus »

Could your Cub Scout Pack use a new Pinewood Derby track?

To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the PWD, Derby Gurus is excited to sponsor "Win A Track For Your Pack"!

Every Pack that purchases 20 Grand Stand displays can qualify to be entered in a drawing for a new 42-foot, 4-lane track from Best Track! Plus, the winning Pack's District will receive $500.

And, every qualifying Pack will receive a complimentary "Welcome to the Pinewood Derby" vinyl banner to hang at its races!

Visit http://www.derbygurus.com/uploads/WATFYP.pdf" target="_blank for details!

 This appears to be an unusual marketing campaign relative to Scouting ideals, as BSA forbids elements of chance from its own unit fundraising....
Will the fund-raising activity uphold the good name of the BSA? Does it avoid games of chance, gambling, etc.? Selling raffle tickets or other games of chance is a direct violation of the BSA Rules and Regulations, which forbid gambling.

Thanks for the concern. But, Derby Gurus is not affiliated with the BSA and the Packs are not selling anything, let alone a raffle ticket or game of chance, to raise money.

True, but the Pack is benefiting from the outcome of a lottery, and funds are still being raised for the "winning" Pack's District. The Rules and Regulations of the Boy Scouts of America, Article 11, Section 1, Clause 1 state:
Any fundraising project designated to benefit chartered organization units, districts, local councils, or on a national basis which involves games of chance, lotteries, sale of raffle tickets, bingo, or could be construed as a gambling activity is not permitted.
Thus, might there be a question as to whether the "winning" Pack's District may accept, say, the $500 lotto prize? :idk:

Regardless, lotteries are counter to Scouting culture, hence the observation that it seemed like an unusual marketing approach. :goodluck:
