Scouts - Girls and Boys

Post by Speedster »

I had nothing to do with the decision but I got my answer.

On Feb 9th Pack 217 raced the Cub Scouts and Caitlin, in her Cub Scout uniform, won her race. On Feb 10th Pack 217 raced the Girl Scouts and Caitlin, in her Girl Scout uniform, won her race. On March 9 Caitlin will race in the Cub Scout Commodore Perry District race. Sometime in May Caitlin will travel to Waterville, Ohio to compete in what is called, "Regional Powder Puff Derby". The Regional race in May takes the 2 fastest cars from each group and has a Grand Champion race. Caitlin won it last year. That's a lot of racing.

I think the words "Powder Puff" will soon disappear from Girl Scout Pinewood Derby racing if my friend, a Regional Director of the Northwest Region for Girl Scouts, has anything to say about it.

I've always thought "Powder Puff" was a terrible name for a girls' race. What's it got to do with racing?

Nothing. I think folks used to think it was a cute name for little girls.
