Light Tree Kit Idea

Post by John Shreffler »

Sporty did a great job recently on converting a light stack available on ebay for $29. (ebay search: Tower Signal Stack) I had to buy one myself to see what it was like. Really nice. It is just light bulbs and lenses, so you have to figure out how to make it into a count down light. It includes a mounting post. See http://www.newdirections.ws/images/LTK1.jpg" target="_blank Incandescent bulbs are not able to do quick flashes, so conversion to LED is indicated. It is easy to hog out the swaged sockets on each level, and mount the round boards I use in my normal light tree. See http://www.newdirections.ws/images/LTK2.jpg" target="_blank I mounted a pair of light rings above and below the levels so they line up with the prism areas of the lenses. Although a #8 screw with a bunch of nuts works, a pair of standoffs would be neater. The board patterns can accept either eight 5mm LEDs or four Piranha style LEDs, which is what I used here. See http://www.newdirections.ws/images/LTK3.jpg" target="_blank Any interest out there in a kit built around this light stack? If so, I will invest in a new main circuit board and offer it as a conversion kit.
