$5,000 Pinewood Derby Showdown Coming To Wisconsin
Seems that the registration deadline has already past. If you are in the neighborhood, it might be fun to stop in and see the action.

What fun! The rules no longer seem to be posted at that site (probably due to the registration deadline having passed), but this looks to be a copy of the 2024 rules.
Youth 1st Place $1,500, Youth 2nd Place $750, Youth 3rd Place $250 in two age divisions ($5000 total). There is also an outlaw ("Mentor") race having an 8 oz weight limit, having an additional $100 prize for 1st place.
Elkhorn, WI was once a manufacturing focus for American musical instruments (not to be confused with Elkhart, IN). Much of that type of business has moved to Asia now (like so many other things nowadays), but Getzen / Edwards still make high-quality brass instruments there... I've long thought that it would be neat to see their plant in person!

Not good. Unfortunately, we got dq'd in tech. So, no racing for us. We could have raced for fun, but be ineligible for the prize money. My kids were pretty upset, so we left. Big bummer.

The front wasn't 1.75" between the axles on all 3 cars.gpraceman wrote:What was the issue?

Yes, that is what they said. But altered from what? They said a stock block, which is nowhere in the rules.
They also have a track clearance rule of 1⅝. This isn't ever an issue with a stock block, so why is that in there?
Keep in mind that last year, this wasn't an issue. Same rules. They got complaints about, you guessed it, the fast cars. So, purely an interpretation change with no warning as to a different meaning. Hopefully, they update the rule to say plainly 1.75". If that was the case, we would have made sure to be good there. We were 3 of 8 cars dq'd for this. So, a common misunderstanding of what I would say is a vague rule.

Yes, it is possible to find copies of the 2023 rules online and that same rule is there. If I had read that rule, I might have interpreted it less strictly to intend that "the car must accommodate the width of the guide rail." If you were allowed to race last year with the same configuration, the meaning of the rule had been presumably set by precedent.
Just curious, how many racers are attracted by a purse of this size? Dozens? Hundreds?
